The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the Civil Services Exam 2019 results. Pradeep Singh from Haryana’s Sonepat.
His father is a farmer in Haryana, and his mother is a house-wife. Mr. Singh has topped the prestigious exam applied by nearly 10 lakh aspirants. Based on the written part of the Civil Services Examination, held in September 2019 and the interviews for personality tests conducted in February-August 2020, a total of 829 candidates have cleared the UPSC exam.
Majority of the qualified candidates, i.e., 304 are from the general category (GC). These candidates have been recommended for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among other prestigious civil services.
Twenty-nine-year-old Singh, who is part of 2019’s batch of Indian Revenue Service (customs and central excise) officers, is currently undergoing the probation at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Faridabad. He has cleared the exams on his fourth attempt.
A total of 829 candidates have been selected to the various Civil Services through the 2019 edition of the exam.

Mr. Pradeep Singh’s Success Story
Discussing about his feelings and how grateful he is, he said his parents are crazy happy at the moment, and he is glad to receive such good results. Pradeep secures the number 1 rank in his fourth attempt- and while describing his feelings, he said-
“I’m feeling happy; this was my 4th attempt. I had cleared the exam last year also and joined the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). The country is facing many problems, I’ll try to contribute towards solving them.”
It is a dream come true-
“It is like a dream come true. It is a pleasant surprise for me. I have always dreamed about IAS officer’s life, and I only wanted to be an IAS officer. I want to work for the deprived sections of society,” Pradeep Singh told the media.
A Very Special Achievement
About 10 lakh of aspirants apply every year for the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE). It is conducted by the UPSC to recruit the ideal candidates for prestigious services like the IAS, IPS, IFS, etc.
Coming from a lower-middle-class family, it was his hard work and dedication, which helped him achieve his ambition. He didn’t think of settling even after securing the coveted job of an IRS officer. His dream was always to be an IAS officer and he has certainly worked hard for it.
Pradeep Singh’s phenomenal success in the UPSC Civil Services Exams will inspire many.
A son of a former village head, Pradeep Singh has grown up in Sonepat and went to the local school. He holds a degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science) from Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram University for Science and Technology in Murthal.
Pradeep Singh is a probationer at IRS Academy, and is currently undergoing training at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics in Faridabad.
He was quite confident about clearing this exam, but he never expected getting the first rank –
“I was quite confident I will get through, but I never expected the first rank,” Singh told the media when he came across the final results of the exams.
Education and the agriculture sectors of the country are close to his heart –
“This is unbelievable, and my parents are ecstatic.”, Singh says.
Father of the topper, Mr. Sukhbeer Singh, also said that it is like a dream come true for the whole family.
Note: Pratibha Verma is the topper among women candidates.
Mr. Pradeep Singh is proof that if you are clear on the goal you aim, nothing is impossible. And as long as you put in the work and believe in yourself, your dreams and aspirations will always be reachable.
